Attendance
Write on the board: “Halloween is October 31”
Talk about “scary things.” Draw on the board first, then have students
tell you how to say the following in English.
ghost
|
skull
|
skeleton
|
Spider-man
|
night
|
Ultraman
|
Jack
o’lantern
|
spider
|
witch
|
snake
|
Students use the above words to complete “Halloween Crossword.” 10 minutes for this is optimal. Note: there are many “crossword creators”
on the internet. This is an easier way
to do it. For this reason I have not
included the crossword.
Write letters from A-Z on the board.
Write numbers to the code on the next page of handout. With student input, solve the rest of the
code.
Students complete words on the bottom of second page, discuss the “secret
words” if time.
On the back of handout students draw the scariest picture they
can. I’ve found that letting them get
into pairs usually helps, but three students together never works. After 10-15 minutes, teacher tells students
to place their drawings on their desks and stand in the back of the class. Teacher then looks over all the drawings and
awards a prize for the “scariest” picture.
Game: “Pass the Pen.”
Students pass a pen (or any other object) around the room. Teacher counts down. When teacher says “Stop!” the student with
the pen has to stand up and answer a question about Halloween.
