I have taught this unit twice. The first year it went well, though I think
that some of my expectations were too low.
The students pleasantly surprised me.
The
second year I made it more academic, and more book-centered. The fact that I was using more photocopies
seemed to give the students the sense of security they needed to succeed with
this material. Education in Taiwan is very
book-centric, and I found that if I departed too dramatically from the standard
curriculum students tended to “freeze up.”
Overall,
I am happy with what is written here, though there is always room for
improvement.
